About Happy Tails Service Dogs

Happy Tails Service Dogs Training is dedicated to the education and training of a person with a physical disability and a dog to become a working team. This in turn will lead to greater independence in their homes, neighborhoods and communities. Learned tasks are based on individual needs of the owner, thus enhancing their daily activities.

June & Roxy

I have had several dogs in my life but Roxy is the first service dog I ever had. I never knew how much help a service dog could be. She opens containers for me, picks up things, opens doors and gets me a soda from the fridge. Before I had Roxy she never had the opportunity to be around many people. She wasn’t too sure of strangers so we really worked on socialization. One day I was trying to get on my scooter, I accidentally pushed the wrong button and the scooter moved away from me and I fell on the floor. I can’t get up by myself so I had to call the fire department. They asked how they could get in and I said the front door was locked so they would have to climb over the brick wall in the back yard and come in the back door – I had just let Roxy out so that door was open. I told them I had a dog and they told me to call her into the house and to hold onto her. The next thing I knew there were four huge (and cute) firefighters standing in my bedroom doorway! Roxy looked at them and gave them the evil eye, like what are you doing in my house. The firefighters were so good. They knelt down and talked to Roxy then told me to let her go. She went up to them so they could pet her then she just laid there while they helped me up and onto my scooter. I was so proud of Roxy and all that we have accomplished. Roxy is my angel.
